Sandy police, with help from the Joint Criminal Apprehension Task Force, caught the third of three people wanted in connection with the attempted stabbing of a convenience store clerk.
On March 30, two men dressed in red entered Maverik Country Store, 425 W. 9000 South, while another waited in a vehicle. One of the men who went inside walked to the beer cooler while the other asked the clerk for cigarettes, said Sandy police Sgt. Victor Quezada.
After the clerk grabbed a carton of cigarettes, the would-be robber demanded money and displayed a knife, Quezada said. Without being provoked, the man lunged at the clerk, he said.
The clerk was able to make a quick move and grab his attacker's arm without being cut, slide past him and run out the door, Quezada said. Two of the wanted men, ages 17 and 19, were arrested last week after store surveillance video was released.
Thursday night, the JCAT team received a tip on the whereabouts of 18-year-old Jonathan Anderson, the man who allegedly attempted to stab the clerk. He was arrested in Bountiful and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a $100,000 warrant.
