SANDY — More than $150,000 in diamonds were stolen in a heist outside a restaurant here Wednesday night.

Around 9 p.m., a jewelry broker was leaving Johnny Carino's Country Italian restaurant, 10585 S. State, when he was jumped by four men, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada.

"They forced him to the ground, took his keys," he said. "They opened the trunk and removed a briefcase."

Inside, police said, were diamonds worth more than $150,000. Investigators believe the men knew who they were robbing and what they were looking for.

No weapons were seen in the robbery, though the men slashed the jeweler's tires before leaving, Quezada said. The man was not injured.

Witnesses told police that the thieves left in a newer model Chevrolet Impala. The four men were wearing bandanas across their faces and black hoodies, Quezada said.
