PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence hired Keno Davis as its new coach Tuesday, less than two weeks after he was honored as The Associated Press national coach of the year at Drake.
Davis won the AP award in his rookie year as a head coach. He took Drake to its first NCAA tournament since 1971, and led the Bulldogs to a school-record 28-5 record and their first national ranking in 33 years.
Spurs strike first
Manu Ginobili scored 26 points and the San Antonio Spurs won their 19th in a row to tie the NBA record for longest winning streak kept alive in the playoffs, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-98 to open the Western Conference finals on Sunday night.
