JUSTIN CAMPBELL, Alta, baseball: This junior is a big reason why the Hawks are now the favorites to win the Region 2 baseball title. He has picked up two wins on the mound, and last week alone in a three-game sweep over Jordan, he had three doubles and a home run.

"Justin can do it all. He is just a terrific baseball player," said Alta coach Barry Harrington. "He isn't the most vocal leader. He is kind of one of those that just leads by example, but the others on the team certainly look up to him and follow the good example he puts on. He is a hard worker, and even more than that, he is just a really good kid, the type you would love to have a team full of kids just like him."

Campbell has been contributing on the team for three years now but has assumed the role of team ace this season. He's also an honor roll student.

GENERRA NIELSON, San Juan, softball: Anyone who's seen this senior pitch understands why the Bronco defense is so tough. But what many overlook is her offensive capabilities.

"She put in the time in the offseason and really learned to control her bat," said head coach Craig Swenson. Nielson is batting .404 and has eight home runs with eight games left. She hit two home runs last Friday against South Sevier. She had also earned140 strikeouts.

"I don't know too many people who put the time in the gym that Generra does," Swenson said. "She will go to practice and then spend another hour or hour and a half throwing with her dad. Her work ethic is unmatched."

The three-time all-state pitcher has signed with CSI, and Swenson said it's her versatility that makes her so dangerous. "She has five different pitches, so you don't ever know what's coming," he said. "She keeps hitters off balance."
