Simpson finished sixth with a clearance of 11-1 3/4. Chasity Toilolo was also a top-10 finisher with a sixth-place mark in the shot put with a throw of 41-7 1/2. She also had a top-20 finish in the discus, placing 19th with a toss of 120-6 1/2. Ashley Patterson was sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.83. Josefin Berg finished third in the hammer throw (179-11 1/2).

Utah State

BASKETBALL: Another national honor was bestowed upon Utah State's Jaycee Carroll as he was named the Western Athletic Conference's Player of the Year by CollegeInsider.com. The online publication also named Boise State's Reggie Larry as the WAC's MVP and Broncos' Greg Graham the league's coach of the year.

SOFTBALL: The Aggies (11-24, 2-8) dropped two games to New Mexico State on Saturday in Logan, falling 5-4 and 14-1.

MEN'S TENNIS: The Aggies (6-12) swept Northern Colorado 7-0 Friday in USU's final home match.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Aggies dropped a 6-1 decision to Northern Colorado on Friday. The Aggies' only point came from freshman Hailey Swenson's win at No. 2 singles.

SOFTBALL: SUU has signed Samantha Powell, a catcher from Colton, Calif., to a national letter of intent to play softball for the Thunderbirds next year. Powell, a senior at Colton High School, was a first-team all-San Andreas League performer as well as a San Bernardino Sun second-team all-area selection last season. She is currently hitting at a .333 clip with 10 runs scored and four RBI through 14 games for the Yellowjackets, who are 9-5 so far in the season.

On the diamond, the Thunderbirds split a pair of one-run games with Centenary on Friday, with SUU taking the opener 4-3 and Centenary winning the nightcap 10-9.

VOLLEYBALL: Coach Debby Baker announced the signings of Tess Lawrence (Layton Christian Academy) and Analaine Pelaez (Fremont). They will be the first volleyball players on campus when the season begins in the fall of 2009.

MEN'S GOLF: Nate Page has been named the Summit League Player of the Week for men's golf following his performance Monday and Tuesday at Wyoming's Cowboy Classic.
