Campus notes
The Mountain West Conference named Utah's Zach Ganger and Miron Mann as co-Men's Players of the Week. It was Ganger's third time earning the award and Mann's first time.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Utes dropped a 4-3 decision against New Mexico on Friday at Albuquerque.
FOOTBALL: Utah safety Steve Tate has been named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society. Tate, an economics major with a 3.34 GPA, was a first-team all-conference selection in 2007, leading the MWC defensive backs with 10.5 tackles for a loss and leading the Utes in tackles last season with 103. The Skyline product earned Academic All-Mountain West and Athletics Director Honor Roll accolades.
SOFTBALL: Ashley Smuda threw her second no-hitter of the season as the Utes defeated UNLV 4-0 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Smuda struck out five in the win. She raised her record to 13-9. Smuda also threw a five inning no-hitter on March 11 against Southern Utah.
The Utes (22-19, 5-3 MWC) scored all they would need in the third inning.
In Friday's first game, San Diego State scored a 3-2 victory over the Utes, thanks to Megan McDonald's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
TRACK & FIELD: Led by Laryssa Simpson's personal best in the pole vault, several Utes earned top-10 finishes on the second day of the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
