Mike Weir played one of his better rounds at Augusta National on Friday afternoon and put himself into contention at the halfway point of The Masters.
The Utah resident and former BYU golfer didn't have a bogey on the round in shooting a 4-under-par 68, which left him in a tie for eighth place, five shots off the lead at 3-under-par 141.
All in all, it was a great day for left-handers, as Steve Flesch put up the best score of the day, a 5-under 67, and Phil Mickelson shot a 68. Both players are tied for third at 139.
Weir made his first birdie at the par-5 No. 2 hole, then added a birdie at No. 9 when his approach shot nearly went in for an eagle before ending up three feet away.
He birdied No. 14 and just missed a birdie try at 17 before finishing with a birdie at No. 18, where he put his approach within five feet of the hole.
Since winning the Masters in 2003, Weir missed the cut in 2004, and has finished in a tie for fifth, 11th and 20th the past three years.
Weir tees off at noon MDT in today's third round with Arron Oberholser.
