MOUNTAIN GREEN, Morgan County Fire authorities are planning a 1,000-acre prescribed burn next week in Weber Canyon.
The U.S. Forest Service said Friday that the burn will take place April 15 on the canyon's north slope above the Devil's Gate in the Tatterson Creek drainage, parallel to I-84. Firefighters will use hand-held drip torches and a helicopter to ignite the fire. Engines and crews will monitor the burn areas until the fire is extinguished.
"The goal of the prescribed fire is to restore the integrity and diversity of the brush communities, and to specifically create a mosaic pattern of uneven-aged brush and open grassy areas which directly benefit wildlife," Ogden district ranger Chip Sibbernsen said in a statement.
