'Wicked' is coming to S.L. in April '09
"Wicked," the story of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, is the back story to "The Wizard of Oz." It follows the two witches as they grow from young girls to college roommates. What happened? When did the two become enemies?
Filled with melodic, singable Stephen Schwartz tunes, "Wicked" has become a musical phenomenon, winning over critics and audiences alike worldwide.
"Wicked" will be at Capitol Theatre April 8-May 3, 2009. Single tickets are not available for purchase until later this year. The rest of the season includes:
"The Rat Pack Live at the Sands," Oct. 7-12, 2008: The hottest and coolest party in town, "The Rat Pack" re-creates a legendary evening with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. With swingiin' big-band music, and the Burelli Sisters, it features such songs as "I've Got You Under My Skin," "That's Amore," "Mr. Bojangles" and "The Lady Is a Tramp."
"Ain't Misbehavin'," Feb. 17-22: This 30th anniversary tour of the 1978 Tony Award-winning musical features "American Idol's" Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis, who also had a brief run in "Rent." It is a soulful musical revue of Harlem in the 1930s. With "Honeysuckle Rose," "Your Feets Too Big," and "I Can't Give You Anything But Love," "Ain't Misbehavin'" is sometimes sassy, sometimes sultry, sometimes heartwarming and unforgettable.
"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," June 9-14: Based on the popular children's movie, "Chitty" has sensational sets, special effects and a great story. Songs include "Truly Scrumptious," "Hushabye Mountain," and, of course, the Oscar-nominated title song, "Chitty." It's a musical the whole family will love.
