A man who held his girlfriend captive in their home by chaining her to an engine block has struck a plea deal with prosecutors.
Fernando Orozco-Trevizo, 32, pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. In exchange, Salt Lake County prosecutors dismissed kidnapping and criminal mischief charges.
Orozco-Trevizo was scheduled to face a preliminary hearing Thursday in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court when the plea deal was announced. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 19.
Orozco-Trevizo was accused of chaining his girlfriend to an 800-pound engine block inside their West Valley City apartment so she couldn't leave. In December, she wrote "911" in the condensation on a window, alerting a neighbor, who called police.
