Portion of private sector in 2006: 57 of every 1,000 private sector workers, 14th-ranked

Number of establishments in 2006: 4,172, 26th-ranked

Payroll in 2006: $3.3 billion, 27th-ranked

Average wage in 2006: $58,681, ranked 37th among states and 69 percent more than Utah's average private-sector wage of $34,727

Venture-capital investments in 2007: $182 million in 2007, 19th-ranked
