Make bid for Britain

Love all those British movies and comedies on PBS? Here's a way to visit the place where they are filmed — and help public television to boot.

VisitBritain, the tourist office for England, Scotland and Wales, has donated 35 vacation packages that will be sold through online auctions in April, May and June, with proceeds going to PBS. There is also a sweepstakes to win round-tip tickets to Britain courtesy of American Airlines, a partner in the auctions.

For winning bidders, the tour includes nonstop service from seven U.S. cities, with round-trip coach air for two to London. First-class rail in Britain is provided by BritRail. Six night's hotel accommodations are split among two of Britain's Heritage Cities.

Whitewater thrills

At this year's Reno River Festival, visitors not only have a chance to see the best kayakers in the world go head-to-head in some fierce whitewater competition, they can also get a little wet and wild during the free whitewater clinics provided by Different Strokes Kayaking. At beginner-level courses to advanced techniques and classes for those with mobility and sight impairments, attendees can learn from the best at the festival, Mary 9-11 at the Truckee River Whitewater Park in Reno.

For more details about the fifth annual Reno River Festival or the kayaking classes, visit www.RenoRiverFestival.com. or call 775-784-9400, ext. 119.

Big bash for bikers

The first Sedona Bike Bash, a bicycle festival for enthusiasts of all ages, is set for Saturday, April 12, at the Sedona Heritage Museum in Sedona, Ariz. Besides fun rides, the festival expo area will offer trick demonstrations, kids' activities, a bike rodeo, bicycle safety zone, antique "tall tricycle" demonstration and vendor booths.

Visitors can bring their bikes or rent them at the festival. Guides are also available for hire.

In addition, there will be a silent auction and raffle. Proceeds benefit the Sedona Historical Society. For more information visit www.sedonamuseum.org or www.bike-bean.com. or call 928-282-7038.
