A 41-year-old Salt Lake woman reported to Midvale police Friday night that she had been blindfolded, carried into a motel and raped after accepting a ride with a female acquaintance that she "knew from around," but whose name she did not know.

The victim told Midvale police at around 5:30 p.m. Friday she was walking near a McDonalds at Fort Union Blvd. and 900 East when she was picked up. Shortly after entering the vehicle, an unkown male in the back seat put a rope around her neck and blindfolded her. The victim believes she was taken to a Motel 6 at 7263 S. Catalpa St. where she was sexually assaulted. After the assault, she was taken from the motel to the TRAX station at 7200 West, and dropped off.

The woman returned to her residence, but did not report the incident until 9 p.m. Midvale police, along with a victim's advocate, responded to the call and the woman was accompanied to Intermountain Medical Center for an examination.

Midvale police Sgt. Marzelo Rapela said police are investigating the incident and, as of late Friday night, had not been able to corroborate details of the report.
