Aftermath of a fire that killed an elderly woman on Jefferson Avenue in Ogden on Friday.
Ravell Call, Deseret Morning News
A 73-year-old woman was killed after an early morning fire ripped through an Ogden home.
Firefighters were called to a home on the 3000 block of Jefferson Avenue around 5 a.m. Friday.
"There was just heavy smoke and fire coming out of the windows, the front door and the roof," deputy Ogden Fire Chief Chad Tucker told the Deseret Morning News. "The fire had been burning a significant amount of time."
It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. Inside, investigators discovered the body of Connie A. Larson in a front room.
"She's the only one in the home," Tucker said. "She's an invalid which made it difficult for her to get out of the house."
Investigators spent most of Friday morning going through the remains of the burned-out home, searching for clues as to what caused the fire. Fire officials said it appears to be accidental, but an exact cause is still under investigation. About $150,000 damage was done to the home.
On Friday, firefighters set up an account in Larson's name at Wells Fargo Bank to help bring her family in from out of state for the funeral.
"It'll help pay some of the expenses for the funeral and bring her family in from Florida," Tucker said.
Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank branch on behalf of Connie Larson.
