The number: 37% — Are African-Americans still a single race?

Nearly four in 10 African-Americans (37%) say that blacks can no longer be thought of as a single race in a recent Pew survey. Just a bare majority of blacks — 53% — say it is still appropriate to think of blacks as single race.
