• September 2004: U.S. military deaths reach 1,000.

• October 2005: Deaths reach 2,000.

• Dec. 31, 2006: Deaths reach 3,000,

• March 23, 2008: Deaths reach 4,000 after a roadside bomb kills four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad.
