BASEBALL: UVSC dropped its second straight game and the first in a three-game series at Washington, 12-3, on Thursday night in Seattle. The Huskies blew open a tight game with a six-run eighth. Aaron Brady had two of the Wolverines' seven hits, while Jace Brinkerhoff extended his hitting streak to 15 games for UV.
BYU
SOFTBALL: A walk-off home run by freshman Caschjen Davis in the bottom of the seventh inning gave BYU a 7-6 win Friday over East Carolina at the Stanford Invitational II.
Davis' lead-off homer in the seventh was her first home run of the season and BYU's first walk-off bomb this season.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: No. 37 BYU was swept 7-0 by No. 7 California Friday. The Cougars fell to 8-7 overall.
DIVING: BYU sophomore Tawni Jones earned her first All-America honor as a second-team member after placing 14th nationally on the 3-meter board.
Utah
SOFTBALL: Utah overcame a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to upset No. 14/18 DePaul 3-2 before falling to No. 14/19 Fresno State 9-6 on the second day of the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
Against DePaul, Kelly Matthews singled to bring Diana Phillips home for the winning run.
MEN'S GOLF: Utah opened play Friday at the Ron Moore Invitational Friday in Goodyear, Ariz., eight strokes off the team lead and tied for seventh in the 16-team event.
Individually, Utah was paced by Chance Cota, who carded a 68 Friday with a back-nine 33 on the back nine, good for a tie for fifth place.
Southern Utah
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Summit League pre-season favorite Oral Roberts handed SUU its first conference loss Friday, 4-1.<>P SOFTBALL: SUU and UMKC split a pair of one-run Summit League games Friday, with the Kangaroos taking the first 3-2 and the Thunderbirds a 7-6 nightcap victory.
MEN'S GOLF: Nate Page was in second place, one shot off the collegiate lead, and SUU was tied for 11th after Friday's first day of play at the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.
