John Florez's column (March 17) was interesting. I was pleased that his proposed streamlining of education did not include federal and state legislatures acting as super school boards. And I hope that when he said schools should be "operated by parents and teachers as limited liability corporations ...," that would include at least a basic administrative staff in each school.
It is somewhat ironic that much of what he is suggesting is what used to be in place when I worked in the Jordan School District.
The system was so effective many districts from across the state and nation bought into it. But that very effective, locally developed system was quickly replaced by a much more cumbersome testing program mandated by the super school board Utah Legislature, which was further expanded and made more cumbersome by the No Child Left Behind program mandated by the super school board the U.S. Congress.
