Salt Lake County Councilman Mark Crockett believes he still has work left to do

The first-term councilman announced his re-election bid on Wednesday. He is running for the District 4 seat, which encompasses the Millcreek Township, Holladay and Cottonwood Heights.

Crockett said there is still plenty of work to do to build a regional police effort, as well as expand the county's rehabilitation programs for low-level offenders in an effort to keep the jail from being filled with repeat offenders.

"It has been a pleasure and honor to work for the residents in our area these past few years," Crockett said. "Yes, county politics can still be frustrating at times, but we have made some real progress. We are now positioned to make some important improvements in safety, schools, park spaces and the way we spend our money."

During his first term, he spoke out against public funding for a soccer stadium in Sandy and led a sweeping ethics reform package.

"Always the diplomat, he is willing to stand for what he believes despite personal political consequences," Cottonwood Heights Mayor Kelvyn Cullimore said.

Crockett's priorities if re-elected include regional policing; adding more parks and trails; effective jail and rehabilitation programs; improved responsiveness and funding in schools; adding countywide cultural facilities; and disciplined spending.
