LEHI A construction worker died Wednesday morning in Lehi after falling 40 feet off an I-beam.
Daniel Monsour, 26, of Grantsville was standing on an I-beam, waiting for the crane to bring up another beam to put into place at the Marriott Residence Inn at 3400 N. Ashton Blvd. in Lehi, and fell, said Lehi Police Sgt. Darren Paul.
"(The beam) was out of position a little bit, so he tried to swing it around to reposition it, (and he) lost his footing," Paul said.
On the way down, Monsour hit two other I-beams and landed on the concrete, Paul said. He was not wearing a harness.
A co-worker called police at 9:45 a.m., and responding medics started CPR on Monsour, who had severe head trauma, Paul said.
Crews called for emergency helicopter transportation four minutes later and by 10:30, Monsour was en route to the University of Utah Hospital.
Monsour was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m., Paul said.
The company, Steel Deck Erectors, was not cited, but Lehi investigators will continue looking into the situation, as will the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, Paul said.
"He should have been harnessed in, but he wasn't," Paul said. "Had he been been harnessed in, he would have only lost his footing, then (the harness) would have caught him."
A message left late Wednesday for the company was not immediately returned.
