Over the summer, the club fishing groups meet once a week for anywhere from six to eight weeks.

Volunteers teach the kids about fish, where they live, how they survive and where best to find them, then lead them out to a community pond where they fish for an hour or so.

It takes but one evening for volunteers to learn the training process and a couple of hours a week at club gatherings. Some of the volunteers have told me that, through it all, they end up having more fun than the kids.

As I found, there are few things as rewarding as helping and then watching the reactions of youngsters when they catch their first fish.
