A mindful hotel guest who heard a loud bang about 8:30 p.m. Saturday helped management find a stabbing victim in the next room.
The guest and management found a man lying in the room with an 8-inch butcher knife sticking out of his chest, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Lamar Ewell. He was alone in the room.
The incident occurred at 247 S. State in the Cambridge Hotel, Ewell said. Police believe the victim rents an apartment next door and had been with a friend.
The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He was undergoing emergency surgery late Saturday. Meanwhile, all local officers were asked to be on the lookout for a 50-year-old white male with a pot belly. The man is a suspect in the stabbing, Ewell said.
