Nearly 47 years to the day after becoming the first Utah State basketball player to ever score 40 points in a game, Max Perry, also know as "Max the Magician," died Wednesday in his North Carolina home surrounded by his family and friends.

Earlier this month, Perry, along with McArthur Lane (football), Chuck Mills (football), Kelly Smith (softball), Jay Dee Harris (donor), and members of the 1978 National Championship Volleyball Team, were inducted into the Utah State Hall of Fame.

Perry scored a then school-record 45 points in a win over New Mexico on March 3, 1961, at the George Nelson Fieldhouse.

He is one of 32 players in Utah State history to score 1,000 points in a career. He played from 1959-61.

In 1960, the Perry-led Aggies finished 24-5 and posted wins over Villanova and St. Bonaventure in the National Invitation Tournament.

He was a two-time "Small America" selection by United Press International.
