A Summit County sheriff's deputy was injured after he rolled his car in Parleys Canyon trying to avoid a moose carcass Thursday night.
The crash happened around 7:20 p.m. on eastbound I-80 near the East Canyon exit.
A few minutes earlier, a van collided with the moose, killing the animal. The driver of the van was uninjured, but the animal remained in the road.
Officials said the deputy swerved to avoid the moose and rolled his cruiser.
A helicopter was put on standby when the crash was reported, but Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said he did not believe the deputies injuries were life threatening.
The deputy was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated. He was taken to the hospital and might have broken his leg, officials said.
