SOFTBALL: At Tempe, Ariz., Kristie Keller, Diana Phillips and Ashley Smuda combined in a 8-2 dismantling of Texas Tech Saturday at the Kajikawa Classic. Keller went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Phillips was also 2-for-4, scoring one run. Smuda pitched a complete game, going seven innings and surrendering only four hits and two runs along the way.

SOFTBALL: The BYU women's softball team suffered two losses Saturday in Las Vegas, falling to Kansas, 5-3, and San Jose State, 3-2. The Cougars are now 7-3 on the season. The Cougars were able to put up seven hits against the Jayhawks, but were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Two errors proved to be costly by allowing three unearned runs in the second inning. Against San Jose State, BYU allowed the Spartans to take the lead in the third inning when a fielder's choice permitted the first run. A two-run homer gave San Jose State a 3-0 lead. The Cougars travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for five games against Tennessee, Louisiana Monroe and Virginia in the Tennessee Classic on Feb. 21-23.
TENNIS: The BYU women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory Saturday over Texas Tech to secure an undefeated weekend at home. With the win, BYU improves to 4-5 on the season. For the first time since playing Washington State, the Cougars won all three of their doubles matches. Singles winners included Kristina Doerr, Anastasia Surkova, Elle Carney and Chie Hayasaka. Up next, the Cougars prepare to host Denver and Kansas State on Feb. 22-23.
TRACK: BYU distance runner Kyle Perry set his second national automatic qualifying mark of the 2008 indoor season on Saturday, this time in the 3,000 meters with a time of 7:51.20 at the Husky Classic in Seattle. Perry, a junior from Sandy, already qualified for nationals in the mile on the same track in 3:59.16. Keith Jensen, a junior from Coppell, Texas, set a national provisional mark in the 800-meter run in 1:48.85, the third fastest in the country.

SOFTBALL: At San Diego, freshman Kelley Kaneshiro's game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh completed the comeback for Utah State Saturday as the Aggies rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat Indiana. The Aggies move to 2-6 on the season, while the Hoosiers fall to 0-4. The Aggies wrap up the tournament today against host San Diego State at 3 p.m. (MST).
