Westminster

SKIING: Westminster College will compete on the slopes in '08. The private liberal arts school in southeast Salt Lake City is adding men's and women's alpine skiing and snowboarding to its athletic department. The Griffins have 12 athletic teams. Westminster hired former U.S. Ski Team assistant and Boise State coach Chris Hendrickson to run the programs.

Southern Utah

BASKETBALL: Southern Utah University basketball player Dax Crum, who was featured in a Deseret Morning News article two weeks ago, will appear today on ESPN First Take. Crum, born without a right hand, is scheduled to appear live on the ESPN program at about 9:40 a.m. MST.

GOLF: Louisiana-Monroe held a four-shot lead at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational after the first round of play Monday at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George.

SUU and Utah are tied for sixth place. Matt McArthur led the way for SUU with a 3-under par 69, good for a share of fifth place.

SUU's Nate Page was 31st at 73, while Erick Nilsson and Thomas Camaione were 41st at 74, with Jared Brader rounding out SUU's team scorers in 75th at 77. Thunderbirds competing as individuals include Tai Reynolds (76, 64th), Tim Hawkins (80, 94th), Taylor Stamp (811, 102nd) and Chas Boorman (82, 106th).

Rounding out the team scores were BYU in ninth at 293, Dixie State (11th, 295), Weber State was 13th at 298, Utah State (15th, 309) and Utah Valley (17th, 314). The tournament wraps up with the final round today.
