LA VERKIN, Washington County — A 5-year-old Washington County boy died after falling off a cliff Monday afternoon.

Samuel Lynn Cox apparently "wandered off to play" in an area he had hiked before, according to a statement from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Around noon, his parents noticed he was missing and sent an older brother to look for him.

The boy was found just west of the La Verkin Bridge. Police said he fell about 50 feet to his death.
