GYMNASTICS: Southern Utah gymnast Katie Hicks has been named the Western Athletic Conference Specialist of the Week for her performance in SUU's quad-meet last Saturday. It is the first honor for Hicks this season and second of her career.
Hicks, a junior from Prescott, Ariz., finished first overall on the beam in a three-way tie for the top spot in SUU's meet against BYU, Boise State and CS-Fullerton. The win was her second consecutive individual title on the apparatus in as many weeks.
ACADEMICS: SUU had 21 student-athletes named to the 2007-08 Summit League Fall Academic All-League Team as released by the conference offices.
Among those honored on the women's soccer team was: Cassidy Berlin, Erica Berlin, Briana Bush, Holly Senter, Kristen Fronk, Laura Goodrich, Makell Hansen, Shaley Ipson, Catherine Johnson, Courtney Milligan, Brooklyn Phillips and Ashley Westphal.
The women's cross country team held the distinction of the only recipient with a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester in Sharla Platt. She was joined by teammates Kate Eborn, Ashley Houle, Meghan Reilly and Lisa Tubb on the list.

SOFTBALL: Salt Lake Community College's softball team today announced the signing of 10 players from three states. Seven players are from Utah: Sarah Clark (Springville H.S.), Stacie Graham (Viewmont H.S.), Marqi Gray (Taylorsville H.S.), Kylee Higgins (Layton H.S.), Reilee O'Brien (Weber H.S.), Shaynie Phillips (Bingham H.S.) and Kim Weese (Bountiful H.S.).
