The winners and the losers

• Winner: The successful rescue this week of Tom and Tamitha Garner took Utahns through several emotions. On the one hand, there was unmitigated joy in finding a couple that had been lost in the snowy wilderness for 10 days, and finding them alive and in good health. On the other hand, there was sorrow and grief for the death of Leroy Davenport, who apparently over-exerted himself in an effort to search for the couple.

All parties united at the funeral Thursday, seeking comfort and deeper meaning — a sure sign that healing has begun.
