The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization released the content of a letter the organization sent to LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson urging him to counsel church members to "go vegetarian." Quoting from the Word of Wisdom, PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich told President Monson that "adopting a vegetarian diet is a wonderful Christian response to the unholy abuse of billions of animals every year by today's industrialized meat industry."
