The Salt Lake Valley Board of Health on Thursday voted unanimously to send to Salt Lake County Council a resolution banning smoking in the county's public venues.
The resolution asks the council to make it an infraction, punishable by a fine, to smoke in county parks, recreation areas, golf courses, cemeteries and where there are mass gatherings.
The council could consider the measure as early as next week.
