Scouting has lost 'thrift'

Congratulations to the Boy Scouts of America on their new office building in Orem. It is a true reflection of what modern-day Scouting has become — big business. The store is literally a mini-Cabela's, except that Cabela's is more reasonably priced. BSA executives should be embarrassed. If not, as an Eagle Scout, I am embarrassed for you. If BSA executives want to ensure future success, stop building opulent camps, cease with elaborate training programs and automatic subscriptions to Scouting magazine and divert at least half of your six-figure salaries to reduced enrollments or local-level units.

I'm happy to support what is reasonable. However, Scouting does not practice the "thrift" it preaches and is rapidly losing traditional supporters. If you want to impress us, get back to building boys instead of building programs and kingdoms.
