Hospice-patient data accidentally posted

A Utah hospice in January inadvertently posted confidential information for 82 of its patients online, according to a Washington, D.C., nonprofit.

Even after the information was removed from the Web site, the names, insurance numbers and partial Social Security numbers of patients at Inspiration Hospice remained accessible through Google for several days, the Liberty Coalition said.

"It is impossible to determine how many people accessed the file or search engine caches, or whether copies exist on other parts of the Internet or on hard drives," the group said in a statement released Wednesday.

Those possibly affected by the leak can visit www.ssnbreach.org to confirm what type of information was exposed.
