LDS FRATERNITY WEEK AHEAD: Sigma Gamma Chi, a University of Utah fraternity sponsored by the LDS institute, is setting a goal to raise $10,000 for local charity.

Sigma Gamma Chi Week begins Monday and runs through Friday. The purpose of the event is to promote the fraternity on campus and provide service to the community. Each year, the 10 chapters of the fraternity combine for activities, which include selecting a charity and raising money. Last year, Sigma Gamma Chi donated $4,000 to buy books for an elementary school in Lehi.

This year, the fraternity has teamed up with the Bear Foundation to benefit the Guadalupe School and the Neighborhood House, two local charities that contribute to the educational, physical well-being and general needs of children.

Fraternity members will be on campus each weekday next week from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. to collect donations. On Feb. 15, Sigma Gamma Chi will host a formal dance, with any extra proceeds from the admission going to the fundraising effort.
