At 11 a.m. Saturday, children are invited to visit The Children's Library at Main for a special reading of "The Spiderwick Chronicles" with ABC-4's Nicea Degering.
The five-part children's book series, written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi, is a fantasy adventure, filled with creatures from an unseen world. When the Grace family comes face to face with these magical (and sometimes scary) creatures, they must not only test themselves but also overcome their family conflicts.
On Feb. 14, the books come alive in theaters nationwide, but those who attend this reading will receive passes to a preview screening at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Broadway Centre Cinemas.
The film is rated PG for creature action and violence, peril and some thematic elements. For more information about The City Library's events and services, call 524-8200 or visit www.slcpl.org.
