Daughters of Utah Pioneers is sponsoring an essay contest for high school students, grades 10-12, at part of the annual Days of '47 celebration.
The essays are to build on this year's Days of '47 theme "Still Pioneering Together." Three winners will be chosen, receiving $250, $500 and $1,000 in scholarship money.
The essays must be 750 words or less, typed, double-space. The deadline is March 28. DUP also sponsors a royalty pageant open to young women ages 18-25 who are descendents of Utah pioneers.
The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26. Applications are due to Daughters of Utah Pioneers by April 18. A royalty court, including a queen and two attendants, will be chosen to represent the Days of '47 at various activities, speaking engagements and civic events throughout the summer.
Applications can be obtained at the DUP museum, 300 N. Main. For more information, contact Jennie A. Taylor, at 737-0680, 628-3848 or jennie.taylor@hotmail.com.
