Community groups ask for UTA review in light of audit

Several community activists are asking the Board of Trustees of the Utah Transit Authority to investigate the pay of top executives and allegations that UTA has misled the public with inaccurate press statements.

The activists also called on UTA to work to increase bus ridership.

Their request for review comes after a legislative audit last week that said executive pay at UTA was too high, and the agency had been compiling inaccurate ridership day. The audit also highlighted an example of when UTA released inaccurate information to the media.

"It is imperative that an agency that receives hundreds of millions of dollars in tax money every year provides honest information to the public," the letter said.

The following groups signed the letter: Crossroads Urban Center, Disabled Rights Action Committee, Coalition of Religious Communities, Utah Jobs With Justice, Anti-Hunger Action Committee

Legislative leaders took no action on the audit when it was release last week, but they requested a review by two committees.
