The Senate Education Committee gave the nod to a bill that would allow war veterans to receive honorary high school diplomas.
HB118 would provide that men or women who served in the armed forces of the United States during the period of World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War can receive an honorary high school diploma.
Bill sponsor Rep. Lynn Hemingway, D-Salt Lake, said there are a number of individuals who left high school to serve the country and were never able to get their diploma. The bill would establish language that would allow veterans of those conflicts to receive their diploma.
