The Salt Lake Valley Health Department is encouraging young women to take advantage of low-cost Gardasil that, at only $5 a dose, can help prevent cervical cancer.
The low-cost vaccine is being offered to young women without health insurance or whose insurance does not cover the vaccination.
Gardasil prevents cancer-causing illnesses related to strains of human papillomavirus and is taken in three doses. The vaccine is approved for girls and women ages 9 to 26, although it is especially effective in young adults.
The low-cost Gardasil vaccine is available at all SLVHD health clinics through Vaccines for Children and Huntsman Foundation grants. For additional information on the availability of Gardasil vaccine and vaccination guidelines, call 801-534-4693 or your local public health clinic.
