EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A man who barricaded himself in his home in Eagle Mountain has been taken into custody.

A 34-year-old man who refused to come out of his home, despite being surrounded by SWAT teams, was arrested just after 2:40 p.m., said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The incident began just before 11:30 a.m. when the 34-year-old man got into a fight with his wife.

A neighbor called police to report the fight and that there had been ongoing domestic disputes, Cannon said.

After Utah County officers arrived at the home at 6902 Cherokee Drive, they were able to get the wife and children out of the home, but the man refused to come out.

The man indicated he just wanted to be left alone and that no one had been hurt, Cannon said.

That's when the SWAT team was called in and began negotiating with the man.

Police contacted the man via cell phone, but the man reiterated that he wanted to be left alone and that people in the area should stay away.

The man also allegedly called KSL-TV using another phone and those reporters called authorities to report they were talking with the man.

School children at nearby Pony Express Elementary School who lived on Cherokee Road in the Kiowa Valley neighborhood had to be picked up from school and were not allowed to walk home.
