Outdoor notes
The course from Cora to Pinedale, Wyo., on Monday, Day Three of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race, was shortened from 33 to 18 miles due to extreme weather conditions.
Visibility along the route was restricted by winds measuring 60 mph, making the course dangerous.
Earlier in the week Wendy Davis from Lander, Wyo., had the fastest time. Melanie Shirilla from Lincoln, Mont., was second and Sam Perrino from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, was third.
The final stage of the race will end Saturday in Park City. Sixteen teams remained in the race midweek.
The race will last for eight days.
SNOWSHOE FUNDRAISER
Tubbs Snowshoes and the Salt Lake City Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure will team up for their annual 'Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer' Snowshoe Series.
The event will be Saturday at Mountain Dell Golf Course in Parley's Canyon. This is a fun 3K or 5k snowshoe walk on gentle snow-covered trails to benefit breast cancer research, education and screening.
All pledges and proceeds will go toward breast cancer research.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. An optional 3k snowshoe "Fun Race" will start at 9 a.m.
Tubbs snowshoes will be available free of charge on a first come, first served basis. The cost to compete is $25 per person in advance, $30 on race day.

BALD EAGLE DAY
Utah's annual Bald Eagle Day will be held twice this year — Saturday at sites in central, northeastern and southwestern Utah and on Feb. 9 for viewing at two sites in northern Utah.
Admission to Bald Eagle Day is free. Viewing times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except at the Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area site, where viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Saturday, people can view eagles at:
• Fountain Green State Fish Hatchery, located east of Nephi. At the hatchery, visitors will be given a driving map of the Sanpete Valley that highlights the best areas to view eagles. Literature, displays and bathroom facilities will also be available at the hatchery.
• Split Mountain/Green River, located north of Jensen and below the Dinosaur Quarry in Dinosaur National Monument. To reach the site, drive north from Highway 40 in Jensen on state road 149 to the Dinosaur Quarry.
• Cedar Valley, located on the northwest side of Cedar City. To reach the site, travel west on State Road 56 to 3900 West, then turn right and travel north to 2800 North.
On Feb. 9, viewing will take place at:
• Salt Creek Waterfowl Management Area, located about 10 miles northwest of Corinne. To reach the WMA, take exit 365 off of I-15 and travel west on State Road 83 through Corinne. Stay on SR-83 to 6800 West, then travel west to the site.
• Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area, located on the west side of Farmington at 1325 W. Glover Lane.
Those attending are encouraged to dress for the outdoors and bring binoculars or spotting scope. Utah Division of Wildlife Resources staff will be available to answer questions.
