Traffic stop yields kilos of cocaine

SALINA — A routine traffic stop last week led to a drug bust that yielded about 6.5 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of about $650,000.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Nick Bowles on Wednesday stopped a vehicle on I-70 about five miles east of Salina for "an equipment violation."

Bowles' report states he observed "indications of illegal activity," such as the two adult females in the car making conflicting statements about their travels.

A search of the car led to the discovery of the cocaine, hidden inside wrapped Valentine's Day presents.

Along with the two adults, there was a 2-year-old girl in the car.

Both adults were arrested and booked into the Sevier County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

The child was placed in the custody of the Division of Child and Family Services.
