The Friends of the Marriott Library invite the public to a lecture on "The McLellin Papers, 1854-1880," by authors Stan Larson and Samuel J. Passey.
William E. McLellin was one of the 12 apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837 when the LDS hierarchy was divided over the militarization of the church in Missouri. He did not support the new direction of the church and resigned from the quorum in 1836 and was excommunicated in 1838. However, McLellin became a "friendly critic," retaining his belief in the divinity of the Book of Mormon and keeping in contact with former colleagues in the Quorum of the Twelve.
The lecture will be Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Little Theater of the Olpin Union building at the University of Utah. The event is free to the public.
