You were correct in declaring safety a real issue for nuclear energy (Jan. 16). But conveying truth is impossible with the media portraying nuclear energy as a disaster waiting to happen and distorting the history of past nuclear incidents.
Three Mile Island is addressed in the same paragraph with death and cancer. But no one was harmed by radiation. Not one member of the public can be named who was harmed by radiation from these plants. That is why the media repeatedly recall the catastrophic accident at Chernobyl, a nuclear plant used for weapons manufacturing, that could not be legally built anywhere else in the world.
The real issue is the wisdom of building next-generation nuclear plants or to continue with fossil fuels for electrical power. Future base load electricity cannot be satisfied with solar or wind power. These are the real choices we face.
