Back by popular demand, Alta's Fireside Chats series, sponsored by the Alta Historical Society, will be at various lodges in the village during ski season, with a few events at the REI store on 3300 South in Salt Lake.
On the schedule for January: Alta's avalanche dogs and their work, Jan. 15, 7 p.m. at REI; "A Retrospective on Freestyle Skiing," Alta Peruvian Lodge, Jan. 17, 4:30 p.m.; "A History of Skiing in Utah," Rustler Lodge, Jan. 22, 4 p.m.; "Ode to Alf Engen," Snowpine Lodge, Jan. 31, 4:30 p.m.
