According to "Steve-O" Carlson, the station has permanently departed from its all-American classics music format and has "launched the all-new 'Real oldies' format."
The change was effective Jan. 1.
"It'll be live and local and locally programmed to Salt Lake City. No satellite feed here," Carlson said.
The new format began with just music and jingles, but some of the station's veteran DJs came back this week. On Jan 7, Mark and Gayle Van Wagoner and Danny Kramer returned as part of the new format.
KDYL was an oldies station back in the 1980s, when it was KRSP-AM. The station had children's programming from 1990-1997 and had all-American, nostalgic music since 1997.
KKAT (AM-860) switched from country music to an oldies music satellite show with Scott Shannon last year. So it appears this oldies format is becoming popular again.
KDYL is highlighting oldies music from the 1950s and 1960s, while KKAT is airing more of the late 1950s to early 1970s oldies music, so the two stations are not playing the same songs.
• KOAY IS GONE "The Oasis," a contemporary Christian music station at FM-97.5, is now gone, off the air indefinitely.
KOAY, which started on Sept. 1, 2006, was off the air about Jan. 1.
The station's Web site states: "Simmons Media regrets that our lease with the company that owns KOAY, Millcreek Broadcasting who is in bankruptcy, was terminated by a court on their behalf. Thanks for your previous support and listening to 97.5 The Oasis."
• AM-960 GOES SPANISH The simulcast of "The Zone" sports on KOVO is now gone and an all-Spanish station has taken its place. If you want all-sports, "The Zone" KZNS, AM-1280, is the only place now.
• PEGGY IJAMS LEAVES KEGA After just over two years on "The Eagle" morning show on FM-101.5, Peggy Ijams has left the station. She started on KEGA in October 2005, but had been with Simmons Media for 17 years.
She has a home studio and is in the process of creating a Web site for her voice-over business.
With her departure, Keith Stubbs will be a solo host on the KEGA morning show, 5-10 a.m.
KEGA's other weekday hosts are: Brandie Lane, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Cody Lane, 3-7 p.m.; and Tracy Chapman, 7 p.m.-midnight.
Whitney Allen is a syndicated host on the station.
