Just how lucky is the number 13?

It could be very lucky for Utah's band of skiers and snowboarders.

The SnowSports Industries of America has declared January "Learn-A-Snowsport" month.

Which means?

Utah's 13 ski areas are offering special learn-to-ski and/or snowboard programs the last 13 days of January — 19 through 31.

Each resort will make available a special package during those days. Also, Ski Utah will be giving away ski or snowboard lessons each of those days to people logging onto www.myfoxutah.com.

Available offers include:

Alta — The resort has expanded the "13 day" offer to run from now until Feb. 14. First-time skiers will get four two-hour lessons, four days of ski rentals and four beginner area lift tickets for $149. For information, call 801-799-2271.

Beaver Mountain — With the rental of a high-performance package — skis or snowboard — the renter will get a T-shirt and $5 off an all-area day pass.
