I wanted to alert my fellow citizens to the effects of the new Utah flat tax. I did a "dry run" of my 2007 taxes and have found that under the Utah flat-tax system I will pay $1,100 more in taxes than under the current system.
This year we have a choice to use either system, so I have "dodged a bullet" for now. Next year we will all have to live under the flat tax.
If the intent of the new flat-tax system was to raise taxes on the middle-income families and lower taxes on the rich, it has been accomplished. If we do nothing, many of you will be in the same boat as I am. I urge an immediate end to mass voting for Republican candidates on the state level.
