TROY, Ala. Jerome Odem scored a career-high 19 points in leading Troy to a 80-67 victory over Utah Valley State on Saturday.
The Trojans (8-6, 1-2 Sun Belt Conference) fared much better than their first meeting with the Wolverines (6-10) this season, when they were defeated 72-51 in Orem, Utah.
Odem is recovering from the flu, but his early shooting and the performance of teammate O'Darien Bassett was more than the Wolverines could handle.
Bassett and Odem scored 29 points in the first half by hitting a combined 7-of-10 from three-point range as the Trojans built a 45-25 lead at halftime.
Bassett finished with 18 points and Jarvis Acker rounded out the Trojans' double-digit scoring with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Wolverines closed to within 14 points at 69-55 with 7:35 to play, but the Trojans answered with a 7-0 run to push the lead back to 76-55.
Ryan Toolson led Utah Valley with a game-high 21 points, hitting five-of-10 from three-point range. Richard Troyer added 17 for the Wolverines.
