PROVO — Police arrested a 45-year-old man at a bloody scene in a Provo motel on New Year's Day after he repeatedly stabbed another man during a fight, according to police and a 4th District Court affidavit.

The man woke up intoxicated from drinking the night before in his room at City Center Motel on 300 S. and 150 West and had more alcohol for breakfast, the statement said.

Yelling from his second-floor motel room balcony, the man told the other man across the parking lot to stay away with his drugs. The man, however, approached him anyway, a motel employee said.

That's when the motel tenant grabbed a knife and met the second man at the balcony, police wrote.

A fight on the balcony between the two men eventually moved into the room where the drunk motel tenant stabbed the man several times before police arrived, officials said.

Police would not say the condition of the man victim but said News Year's Years Day morning was brimming with similar but less serious drunken brawls.

Police arrested the man, who has no previous arrest record, on investigation of three counts: disorderly conduct, intoxication and aggravated assault. His cash or bond bail is set at $10,000.
